The Sheep Creek Canyon Geological Loop is a scenic backway off Highway 44 near Flaming Gorge, cutting through dramatically folded, uplifted rock layers, with Forest Service dispersed camping tucked along the canyon.

Getting There
From Manila, head south on Highway 44 and turn onto the Sheep Creek Canyon Geological Loop road. Dispersed pull-offs appear along the canyon as the road winds past dramatically tilted and folded rock formations.
What to Expect
Some of the most striking geology in the Flaming Gorge area, with uplifted, folded rock layers visible right from the road, alongside forest camping along Sheep Creek itself. It's a popular scenic drive, so expect some through-traffic, especially during fall color season.
Good to Know
This loop is a well-known geological attraction, so daytime traffic is common even if overnight camping stays quiet. It connects easily to the rest of the Flaming Gorge recreation area, making it a good basecamp for exploring the reservoir and surrounding canyons.
